Yancoal announced the staged closure in June 2026. Planning and development activity is being reduced first, development mining is expected to finish in early 2027 and longwall mining in early 2028. Workforce reductions began with the announcement, while Yancoal has said it will pursue redeployment opportunities where possible. A vacancy can still be genuine, but role duration and closure exposure now matter.
